Physiatrists: board-certified physicians specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation lead and direct team members, address medical needs and consult internists and other specialists as needed
Rehabilitation Nurses: implement restorative care plans that reinforce skills and provide on-going patient/caregiver education.
Physical Therapists: strive to increase strength, improve balance and coordination, and assess equipment needs to promote safe mobility.
Occupational Therapists: teach skills to optimize independence in daily activities.
Neuropsychologists: psychologists with specialized training in how the brain is affected by disease or injuries.
Speech and Language Pathologists: work to improve speech, cognitive functioning and swallowing skills.
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist: focus on regaining an active leisure lifestyle and improving socialization skills.
Psychotherapists: address the emotional effects of stroke.
Registered Dieticians: ensure a nutritionally sound diet or those with swallowing disorders.
Program Managers: link patient and family to rehab team, insurance provider and community resources.
