without dizziness.
Signs of a vestibular (inner ear) disorder:
- Dizziness with a change in position, such as getting out of or rolling over in bed, walking down a supermarket aisle, or driving a car.
- Unsteadiness when walking, especially in poorly lit areas.
- Difficulty focusing with your eyes while in motion.
Causes of Vestibular Disorders
- BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) the most common cause of vertigo.
- Trauma from a motor vehicle accident or fall
- Autoimmune Disorders such as Lupus or Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Viral or Bacterial infection upper-respiratory infections often
precede vertigo
- Exposure to industrial chemical(s) common in the automotive industry
- Side effects of medication such as Gentamicin, a common antibiotic
- Meniers Disease usually accompanied by fluctuations in hearing
- Arteriosclerosis narrowing of blood vessels that occur with aging can disrupt the functions of the inner ear
- Acoustic Neuroms - may benefit from physical therapy after surgery
